Netflix Shares First-Look Images of Idris Elba in New Comedy Series Turn Up Charlie

Netflix has shared first-look images from new comedy series Turn Up Charlie, starring, co-created and executive produced by DJ Idris Elba. The streamer has also unveiled the series’ recurring cast and premiere date.

Elba, who was just announced as part of the Coachella 2019 lineup, stars in Turn Up Charlie as the titular Charlie, a struggling DJ and eternal bachelor who is given a final chance at success when he reluctantly becomes a “manny” to his famous best friend’s problem-child daughter, Gabby (Frankie Harvey). The series also features co-stars Piper Perabo and JJ Field. Rounding out the cast are recurring guest stars Angela Griffin, Guz Khan, Jocelyn Jee Esein, Jade Anouka, Cameron King and Dustin Demri-Burns.

Turn Up Charlie comes from co-creators Elba and Gary Reich, who also executive produce along with Tristram Shapeero. Shapeero also directs with Matt Lipsey. Martin Joyce and Ana Garanito are co-executive producers. The series is a co-production of Reich’s Brown Eyed Boy Productions and Elba’s Green Door Pictures.

Turn Up Charlie premieres on Netflix Friday, March 15.
