HBO’s New Westworld Trailer Reveals a World of Dreams
Images via HBOHBO hasn’t had much success with its recent slate of dramas. With Westworld, the network is looking to produce another hit the likes of which they haven’t seen since Game of Thrones. HBO just released a visually stunning new trailer for the series, one which gives audiences a better sense of what to expect when the sci-fi drama premieres.
Based on a film of the same name written and directed by Michael Crichton, Westworld tells the story of an elaborate Wild West-themed amusement park. This park is populated by androids, ones whose sole objective is to meet the needs of the humans who visit the park. While neither this trailer nor the first one makes every detail of the plot apparent, it looks as though this world might be one of dreams.
The androids who populate Westworld look to be in some sort of rebellion as well, one which may ultimately be the core conflict of the series. Whatever the case may be, HBO is definitely looking for Westworld to be a major success. While the network still has shows like Game of Thrones to pay the bills, recent drama ventures like Vinyl have not been entirely successful. However, Westworld comes with its own high budget and production problems, per Variety, so HBO badly needs the project to pan out.
Westworld stars Evan Rachel Wood, Anthony Hopkins, Ed Harris, Thandie Newton and James Marsden. The show is executive-produced by none other than J.J. Abrams, and comes with a major pedigree, one which has not been a guarantee of success for HBO as of late. Westworld premieres Oct. 2. Until then, check out the incredibly cryptic full trailer above.
