I ran an eighth-inch cable out of the headphone jack, and blasted the new Silversun Pickups album, Swoon, for the neighborhood kids. “The guitars sound like Sonic Youth,” said Thomas, 6, who’d just BitTorrented 3 GB of noise rock. “I like that they’re layered. But the drums are all, like, major label.” Irma, who is 7, made a face like she’d eaten a sour gumball. “It sounds like music you’d hear on TV or something,” she said. “Like in an ad.” Later, though, a street party broke out, in montage, with Swoon as the soundtrack. Somebody uncapped a fire hydrant. And then an ice cream truck gave out free cones. “I’m starting my own band,” Irma said the next day. “I’m indier than them, anyway.”
Listen to Silversun Pickups' "Panic Switch" from Swoon:

I'm not even sure what this review means. It's like you picked up all the snark from Pitchfork, but forgot to bring the content.
If only that was a review... then I could make sense of such a low score.
Really? Indie equals good? What's wrong with making music listenable and rocking a little while you do it?
I agree that Swoon isn't as good as Carnavas but it's nice to hear something that doesn't try so hard to be "indie" that it's unlistenable. Not to mention the fact that Swoon is a pretty solid effort all the way through and not just a TV related one-hit wonder. I heard The National and Bon-Iver on Chuck episodes. Does that mean they're sellouts not worth listening to? Hardly. There was even a Goldfrapp track on Burn Notice. Just because people pay attention doesn't mean the music is bad or for licensing. Jack White did James Bond. Should his credentials be revoked? Ok, I'll give you that one. But just because you are, or were, considered Indie doesn't mean you're any good.
