The 50 Best Music Videos of the Decade (2000-2009)
Apologies to Kanye, but while Beyoncé had some great videos over the last 10 years, none of them were quite strong enough to make this list. And hold on just a minute, Taylor Swift—that goes for you, too... read more

To make a sweeping generalization, certain Americans have never been huge fans of the French. Things worsened after 9/11, and faster than you could say "freedom fries," many people were boycotting anything that even seemed even slightly related to the country. But this didn't deter some bands—from France, Montreal or the U.S.—from showing a little (deserved) francophone pride in their music. Below are five songs with French titles and English lyrics to help you support anglo-franco friendliness:... read more

Food and music are the two great loves of most people I know. Strangely, though, there seem to be very few songs written about food, perhaps because people are too busy eating it-- or, if you're Tina Fey, working it into the plotlines of your amazing and wonderful and hilarious television show-- to sing about it. Hmm. Doesn't seem fair. While you're pondering this, take a bite out of these 17 songs I've cobbled (mmm, cobbler!) together, all with titles referencing food or related to the consumption thereof, most of which aren't actually about food or the consumption thereof, but... read more

Found in: Music, ReviewsLive Review: Team B @ Union Pool 11/10/08
At Team B's debut performance at Union Pool in Williamsburg, the band played at least a dozen different instruments, including flute, bassoon, ukulele and euphonium. For a group comprised of members of LCD Soundsystem, Beirut, Arcade Fire and a slew of other indie bands, this level of musical diversity is merely par for the course. But while the players' comfort level was high, the night saw an unusual amount of downtime between songs, lots of tuning and a general lack of finesse. ... read more

[Above: Tokumaru performs at the Mercury Lounge.]On September 23rd, Toyko-based singer/songwriter Shugo Tokumaru made his New York City debut at the Mercury Lounge with an unconventional backing band: Jon Natchez and Perrin Cloutier of Beirut, Bryan Devendorf of The National and Lawson White of So Percussion joined the eclectic pop singer for a vibrant performance at a capacity house. It was an odd but welcome sight to see an artist from the other side of the world, who's seen little exposure in Western entertainment media (even these blog things we're hearing so much about), embraced with such fanfare. But one listen to Tokumaru’s latest record, Exit... read more
