Kevin Devine Announces Seven-Inch Split with John K. Samson

Kevin Devine has announced the fourth collaboration in his Devinyl Splits, Vol. 2 series, this time featuring John K. Samson of The Weakerthans.

The series, first started by Devine in 2016, consists of 7” singles each featuring both the Brooklyn-based singer-songwriter and a collaborator. So far, Craig Finn & The Uptown Controllers, David Bazan and Petal have all been announced as collaborators in the second volume.

Pairing up on Devinyl Splits No. 10, Devine and Samson both completed a track for the single. In this edition, Devine tackles “I Wrote It Down For You,” a new original track from the songwriter that serves as the b-side on the release and is not yet available.

Samson’s half of the split, a cover of his partner Christine Fellows’ 2007 track “Saturday Night On Utopia Parkway,” was released today with the announcement. The track is minimal, drastically stripping back the upbeat, piano bounce of Fellows’ version, and replacing it with a simple guitar and a more mellow, almost somber flow.

The full 7” split is set for release on Nov. 30 via Bad Timing Records. It will be available digitally as well as in a limited vinyl run, which can be found here.
