The Watch Begins: HBO’s Watchmen Starring Regina King Gets October Premiere Date

HBO’s promotions for Watchmen have warned us to be wary of clocks for a while now, but never gave a deadline to this countdown till today (Sept. 3). Damon Lindelof’s adaptation of Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons’ 1980’s graphic novel of the same name will premiere Sunday, Oct. 20, at 9 p.m. ET, HBO announced Tuesday.

The pilot of Watchmen is directed by Nicole Kassell and written by Lindelof, creator of Lost and The Leftovers. The series is a semi-sequel to the original comic, taking place in an alternative, modern-day America where vigilantes are treated as outlaws, and criminals and the police alike wear masks for anonymity.

The show’s cast includes Regina King as Angela Abar, along with Don Johnson as Tulsa’s Chief of Police, and Jeremy Irons as the aging and imperious Lord of a British Manor. Jean Smart, Tim Blake Nelson, Louis Gossett Jr., Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Hong Chau, Andrew Howard, Tom Mison, Frances Fisher, Jacob Ming-Trent, Sara Vickers, Dylan Schombing and James Wolk also star.

With the release of Todd Phillips’ Joker set for Oct. 4, it’s clear this October will be exciting for DC fans, and will (fittingly) be filled with masked performances that blur the lines between good and evil, or perhaps make them glaringly distinct.
