Uncharted Movie Inches Toward Release with “Beast” of a Completed Script

Yet another draft of the Uncharted screenplay has been completed for yet another slated director, according to current screenwriter Joe Carnahan (The A-Team, The Grey).

Carnahan shared a picture of the script’s title page via Instagram on Saturday, referring to it as “monstrously cool” and a “BEAST.” The Bad Boys 3 director was hired to work on the film’s story this past summer, after being preceded by Mark Boal and Marianne and Cormac Wibberley on writing duty.

Directing (as of now) is Stranger Things’ director Shawn Levy. Before him, David O. Russell (Joy, American Hustle, Silver Linings Playbook), Neil Burger (Divergent, Limitless, The Illusionist, and Seth Gordon (Horrible Bosses, The King of Kong) were each supposed to direct at some point.

Levy has said that he looks forward to beginning shooting the film this year, assuming the script and casting process don’t hold things up yet again. Last the studio said, Uncharted was still due out this year, though Levy’s post makes no mention of a prospective release date.

The most recently released high-profile videogame movie was December’s Assassin’s Creed adaptation, helmed by Justin Kurzel (Macbeth and starring Michael Fassbender (Steve Jobs, Macbeth, X-Men: Days of Future Past) and Marion Cotillard (Allied, Macbeth, The Dark Knight Rises). The film currently sits at a 17 percent on Rotten Tomatoes.
