GWENT: Thronebreaker, Originally a Single-Player Story Campaign for GWENT, Is Now a Standalone Title

GWENT: Thronebreaker was originally teased in 2017 as a single-player story campaign for GWENT, The Witcher’s free-to-play card game. A year later, CD Projekt Red has revealed that the game has become a standalone game over the course of its development titled Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales.

Through CD Projekt Red’s latest financial briefing, which you can watch below, we know that Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales will be a 30-hour RPG that will follow the journey of Mever, a war-veteran queen of two Northern Realms. According to the original teaser’s video description, “Facing an imminent invasion, she is forced to once again enter the warpath, and sets out on a dark journey of destruction and revenge.” No release date, price or additional information has been given besides that it is planned to release around the time that GWENT will get a massive update called Homecoming, a major overhaul of the game that is the result of the studio feeling like the game has strayed away from the studio’s original vision. The update will release at some point in the last few months of 2018. You will not need to purchase GWENT in order to play Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales.
