The boy who lived will live on through Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, the follow-up to the Harry Potter series that takes form through a play written by Jack Thorne and directed by John Tiffany. On Tuesday, one week before the first preview performance of the first part of the play, Pottermore debuted photographs of the actors in costume for Harry, Ginny and the presumably precocious Albus Severus Potter.
The cast was also confirmed, with Jamie Parker playing Harry Potter, Sam Clemmett playing Albus Severus Potter and Poppy Miller playing Ginny Potter. Before being cast for “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, Miller acted in productions of Macbeth and Twelfth Night and Clemmett has appeared in theater productions of Lord of the Flies and Wendy and Peter Pan and was a contestant on Survivor.
The play’s main character will be Harry’s son, Albus Severus Potter, who will “struggle with the weight of a family legacy he never wanted.”
“There’s much I could say about Sam-as-Albus, but we’d be into spoiler territory so quickly I’ll just say we couldn’t have cast better,” said J.K. Rowling in the Pottermore blog post.
It will take place 19 years after Harry leaves Hogwarts when he is married to Ginny and is the father of three with a job working for the Ministry of Magic.
Later this week, Pottermore will reveal more pictures of other characters from Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. The play will also be released as a book.
