Stieg Larsson’s Millennium Series Will Get a Fifth Book for All You Lisbeth Salander Fans

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and its two sequels were worldwide bestsellers after the first book was released in 2005. Stieg Larsson, the series’ original author, died in 2004 and was unable to finish his planned 10-book series, let alone see its publication. David Lagercrantz continued the story of Lisbeth Salander and Mikael Blomkvist in a fourth book, titled The Girl in the Spider’s Web, which was released in 2015. And now Lagercrantz will return to the Millennium series for a fifth book scheduled for September 2017.

Alfred A. Knopf Editor-in-Chief Sonny Mehta made the announcement: “The success of The Girl in the Spider’s Web demonstrates the affinity readers feel for this series and for these characters. David’s seamless continuation of the world Stieg created, in this new book and the last, is an extraordinary achievement.”

Lagercrantz said that the he was “amazed by the response” to The Girl in the Spider’s Web, which focused on technology and surveillance, and went on to explain his inspiration for the new installment. “During a holiday trip with my family an idea struck me. It arose the same fever that I lived with when I wrote The Girl in the Spider’s Web. It is not so good for my sleep and my neurosis, but it is definitively good for my writing.”

The title of the fifth book has not yet been revealed, but you have plenty of time to prepare for Lisbeth Salander’s return to your life.
