Jerry Seinfeld’s First Netflix Special Gets Release Date

Jerry Seinfeld’s first stand-up special with Netflix now has a release date: Sept. 19.

Jerry Before Seinfeld will be an hour long and will have something of a biographical, retrospective quality, given that alongside new material, Seinfeld will also look back on unreleased jokes dating all the way back to 1975. The special was shot at The Comic Strip in New York City, a club that helped launch Seinfeld’s career.

Seinfeld signed a deal with Netflix earlier this year for two new comedy specials, along with bringing his talk show Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee from Crackle to Netflix (both the old episodes and a new 24-episode season).

The first part of Seinfeld’s deal with the streaming giant to release, Jerry Before Seinfeld will represent Netflix’s continued focus on stand-up comedy, boasting contributions from other high-profile comedians such as Dave Chappelle, Louis C.K., Amy Schumer, Ellen DeGeneres and many more. Netflix has aggressively moved into the stand-up market, taking on the established figures like HBO with all these new offerings. They even made a new Instagram just for comedy, and it has several teaser clips for Seinfeld’s new special. Get excited (and check out the videos below).

You go to a party, there’s nobody there. ‘Where’d everybody go?’ ‘They left!’
