Watch John Oliver Destroy GOP’s Weak Healthcare Replacement Plan

In the latest episode of Last Week Tonight, John Oliver explained the GOP’s shaky plans to “repeal and replace” Obamacare.

As many Republicans are finding out in their town hall meetings, their constituents aren’t exactly as angry about the Affordable Care Act anymore. In fact, many people rely heavily on the current coverage, which doesn’t discriminate against pre-existing conditions and allows young adults to stay on their parents’ plans until the age of 26. This puts the GOP in a sticky situation. Suddenly, they are being held accountable for all the promises they made about repealing and replacing Obamacare with something even better and cheaper. Unfortunately, their current replacement plan leaves a lot to be desired.

Oliver, in his signature furious, yet fact-based way, takes a closer look at the fuzzy replacement plans and finds them wanting. He compares key elements such as refundable tax credits, block grants, high-risk pools and continuous coverage incentives to a “thong that covers your dad’s ass”—in other words, completely insufficient.

As the year zooms on, insurance companies need to know whether they can offer ACA coverage to patients in 2018. The GOP is literally running out of time to figure out a suitable replacement, and they’ve got a lot of anxious voters who want to know what’s going to happen to their health insurance. In the words of Oliver, “Tick-tock, motherfuckers.”
