Paul Ryan might have a mind custom built for destructive conservative policy, but he’s got the body and workout routine of a guy who should probably be in some kind of a magazine. Or even all kinds of magazines, from People and Men’s Health to, uh, Game Informer and Teen Vogue. At least that’s what comedy writers Andrew Lipstein and James Folta thought. The minds behind last year’s great The Neu Jorker parody are back with a magazine focused entirely on the Speaker of the House. You’ll get the expected jokes about Ayn Rand and P90X but so much more, as every article also parodies a different magazine. It’s like flipping through 30 different magazines at once, only every article is about Paul Ryan. And, in our post-fact, anti-realism world, every article, no matter how ridiculous, still feels about as true and possible as anything Trump or the Republicans could actually do today.
The limited edition magazine, which runs almost 200 pages, will be shipping later this month, and can be purchased here. Digital copies are also available for a much lower price than print. In addition to Lipstein and Folta, the large team of writers includes contributors to The Onion, The New Yorker, McSweeney’s, Reductress, The Late Show with David Letterman and more. We’ve read the whole thing, and it’s a sharp bit of satire that spares no punches in its treatment of Ryan while also parodying basically the entire magazine industry.
Don’t take our word for it, though. Check out nine pages below in this exclusive excerpt. Together they provide a great overview of what Paul Ryan pulls off.
