DC Comics Editor Eddie Berganza Fired After Sexual Harassment Claims

The comic book world is the latest industry to make the news by purging men accused of sexual misconduct from its ranks, as longtime DC Comics editor Eddie Berganza has been fired. Per BuzzFeed News, Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment said that they are “committed to eradicating harassment.”

Two women who worked at DC Comics in 2010 complained to the company’s human resources department about unwanted advances Berganza made in the early to mid 2000s, including forcible kissing and attempted groping. Berganza, who was up for a promotion to executive editor at the time, received that promotion anyway. Following another complaint in 2012, Berganza was demoted to group editor. Every woman who complained to the company regarding this matter has since left DC.

The firing comes after another BuzzFeed News report first detailed the allegations from two former DC employees. The report went up last Friday, and Berganza was suspended by DC a day later. Just today, the company announced his termination from the company after further review.

“DC prides itself on being a premier destination for top talent as well as an amazing creatively collaborative place to work that is a safe and secure environment for our employees and extended freelance family,” wrote Diane Nelson, president of DC Entertainment, in an email to employees on Saturday.

Berganza was at DC Comics for 25 years, overseeing production of major titles such as Superman, Supergirl and Wonder Woman. The issue of sexual misconduct has hit all sides of DC, with Warner Bros. suspending The Flash and Supergirl showrunner Andrew Kreisberg after sexual harassment allegations (per THR) and film actress Gal Gadot reportedly threatening to exit the Wonder Woman sequel if Brett Ratner, also accused of sexual misconduct, is attached to the production.
