Death Stranding Release Date, Preorder Details Revealed (Updated)

Update, 12:28 p.m. ET: The rumors were true: Death Stranding will release exclusively for the PlayStation 4 on Nov. 8 of this year.

The release date confirmation comes at the end a dense and mysterious nine-minute-long new trailer for the game that features plenty of gameplay, as well as old faces and new ones.

Check out the trailer and a newly released statement from Kojima himself below. You can preorder Death Stranding here.

People have created “Walls” and become accustomed to living in isolation.

Death Stranding is a completely new type of action game, where the goal of the player is to reconnect isolated cities and a fragmented society. It is created so that all elements, including the story and gameplay, are bound together by the theme of the “Strand” or connection. As Sam Porter Bridges, you will attempt to bridge the divides in society, and in doing create new bonds or “Strands” with other players around the globe. Through your experience playing the game, I hope you’ll come to understand the true importance of forging connections with others.

Now, please enjoy the latest Death Stranding trailer.

Original Story: A post from a Taiwanese PlayStation Facebook account (which has since been deleted) has seemingly leaked a Nov. 8 release date for the highly anticipated Hideo Kojima project and PlayStation exclusive Death Stranding.

This information should be taken with a grain of salt, as it cannot be verified since the deletion of the post.

Still not confirming the rumor, but definitely adding to the current speculation, senior editor of Dissapore Antonio Fucito has also published a tweet containing the Nov. 8 release date in reference to the game (the tweet is still up as of this writing).

The fact that these details have gotten out just ahead of a big Death Stranding reveal suggests there may be some truth to them. A Death Stranding mystery stream is currently taking over the PlayStation Twitch account, slowly revealing new footage of the forthcoming title. Many expect the stream will end with a new trailer and official release date reveal, so the aforementioned PlayStation Facebook account having a post locked and loaded with the date certainly makes sense.

In addition to the possible release date leak, other details concerning the game’s preorder bonuses also came to light Tuesday night on the PlayStation Store. The since-removed page included details about what bonuses would come along with purchasing Death Stranding ahead of time, including a few cosmetic items and something referred to as a “speed skeleton.”

A new synopsis also appeared on the PS Store page, stating, “Sam Bridges must brave a world transformed by the Death Stranding. Carry the remnants of our future in his hands, he embarks on a journey to reunite the shattered world.”

Before the stream Tuesday, Death Stranding creator Kojima tweeted that new details for the game would be released today, May 29, during the livestream (which you can watch here right now). We’ll see if the rumors are true once the reveal takes place later today.
