Fallout 76 Is Getting NPCs and a Battle Royale Mode

During Bethesda’s E3 2019 press conference Sunday night, Todd Howard, detailing the future of “Fallout 76, announced that the videogame will be getting non-playable characters (NPCs) and a battle royale mode in a big year two update. The addition of NPCs to Fallout 76 has been a long-requested addition by players, as many claim that the world of Fallout 76 is rather lifeless. The battle royale mode, though, comes as a surprise.

The update itself is called the “Wastelanders Update” and, in addition to human NPCs, it will add new weapons and gear, a new ongoing main questline and choices that have consequences for players.

The “Wastelanders” trailer shows a player interacting with a fully voiced and animated NPC, engaging in a dialogic exchange via a classical Bethesda dialogue-choice system. The first year of Fallout 76 was rather rocky, so hopefully this will bring the title back on track.

The “Wastelanders” update will be free to all players and is set to release sometime this fall. Check out the trailer for it below.

In addition to the “Wastelanders” update, Fallout 76 is also hopping aboard the battle royale train with the “Nuclear Winter” update. This battle royale mode will see 52 players square off against one another in a bid to become the last player standing. The mode looks to have building mechanics, a giant ring of fire (cue a bad Johnny Cash cover) and Fallout’s signature dark humor.

Check out the trailer for “Nuclear Winter” below.
