IO Interactive and Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment’s Hitman arrives on store shelves today, May 15, in the form of Hitman: The Definitive Edition for the Xbox One, Xbox One X, PlayStation 4 and the PlayStation 4 Pro. The game will receive a worldwide release this Friday, May 18.
Last year, publisher Square Enix dropped developer IO Interactive, leaving the studio to go independent and find a new home for the Hitman franchise. While many fans and critics seemed to love IO Interactive’s new take on the series, it seems it wasn’t enough for Square to want to keep the studio or franchise, citing “extraordinary loss” in an earnings report. With the help of Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, they announced Hitman: Definitive Edition last month, Apr. 2018.
The most recent entry in the Hitman franchise took an interesting approach to its release, going with episodic releases over the course of the year rather than one big release. Now that the Season One is done, the definitive edition packs all of the game’s content together, including:
•IO Interactive’s 20th Anniversary Outfit Bundle – Three new outfits inspired by Freedom Fighters, Kane & Lynch and Mini Ninjas
•Hitman Season One (Main Game) – Seven exotic locations from the first season, including Paris, Sapienza, Marrakesh, Bangkok, Colorado and Hokkaido, along with the ICA Facility
•Hitman Game of the Year Edition Content – Four missions from the Patient Zero Campaign, three themed Escalation Contracts that unlock three unique weapons, as well as the Clown Suit, Cowboy Suit and Raven Suit from the recent Game of the Year Edition digital release
•Hitman Summer Bonus Episode – Featuring ICA bonus missions in Sapienza and Marrakesh
•Hitman: Blood Money Requiem Pack – Including the Requiem Suit, Pale Duck Explosive and ICA Chrome Pistol
•All featured Contracts, Escalation Contracts, Challenge Packs and game updates from Hitman Season One and the Hitman Game of the Year Edition
Hopefully, this new release does well for IO Interactive and Warner Bros. While Hitman is no doubt their most popular franchise, the studio has developed several other properties over the years. That includes the Kane and Lynch franchise, Mini Ninjas and Freedom Fighters.
