Latest Installment of Sid Meier’s Civilization Series to Launch in Late October

Games News

To help celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Civilization series, 2K and Firaxes Games have announced that Sid Meier’s Civilization VI will launch Oct. 21.

The latest installment in the award-winning strategy franchise that has sold more than 34 million units worldwide, and lets you build and advance your own empire while competing against some of history’s greatest leaders, is currently in development for PC. The next entry in the eagerly anticipated series will offer players their most detailed, beautiful and complete gaming experience ever.

“Sid Meier’s Civilization games hold a reputation for defining the 4X gaming genre for the past 25 years,” said President of 2K Christoph Hartmann in a statement. “We can’t think of a better way to celebrate the silver anniversary of our longest-running franchise than launching the eagerly anticipated Sid Meier’s Civilization VI.”

Plans for Civilization IV will see changes to empire expansion, research, diplomacy, arms, and player interaction. You’ll now be able to custom-build your cities to span multiple tiles and enter the expanded multiplayer modes to cooperate and compete with your friends in a wider variety of single session situations. City building in particular has been revamped, with widened cities that are more dependent on terrain and cover more territory.

Changes don’t stop there. Users can speed up their civilization’s progress by unlocking boosts based on natural resources, watch their interactions with other civilizations develop from primitive early interactions to surprise alliances, and embed support units with infantry in the series’ newest chapter.

You can pre-order Sid Meier’s Civilization VI, which is not yet rated, now for Windows PC or pick it up after its worldwide release this October for $59.99. You can also enhance your Civilization experience with Civilization VI Digital Deluxe Edition, which features the full base game, the 25th Anniversary Digital Soundtrack, as well as access to four post-launch DLC packs that add new maps, scenarios, civilizations and leaders.
