No Man’s Sky Update Adds Multiplayer, 30 Extra Hours of Story

When No Man’s Sky released last year, many considered it technically impressive, but somewhat lacking in features. Despite what the developers originally insisted, it turns out that gamers still do want at least a little direction in their videogames.

That’s why it’s so encouraging that the game’s third major update, titled “Atlas Rising,” is adding tons of new content to the base game. The biggest initial addition is the inclusion of multiplayer, which for a long time we’d been told we weren’t getting. On top of that, “Atlas Rising” will include 30 hours of new story content, a new quest system, a terrain manipulator and a galaxy map overhaul, as well as twice the lore and interactions of the existing game.

As far as that lore goes, developer Hello Games describes the new story as follows:

In the Atlas Rises story, the fabric of existence is starting to falter. A mysterious new interdimensional race have appeared. Glitches are causing ancient portals to activate. […] Discover the truth behind the Abandoned Building logs, the World of Glass, the Sentinels, the Redemption of the Gek, and the meaning of sixteen … After Waking Titan, Atlas Rises.

So dust off your trusty space lasers, hop in that cockpit and head back out into the stars.
