Outlast 2 Delayed to 2017

Games News Outlast

Outlast 2, the follow-up to Red Barrel’s hugely popular and utterly terrifying indie horror hit from 2013, has been delayed until the first quarter (January through March) of next year. Outlast 2 was originally slated to come out this Fall. Red Barrel made the announcement on their Facebook page, writing:

We want you to know that we listen to your feedback, we see your excitement and we know you care about our work. Our mission as an indie studio is to deliver to you the best, most terrifying, most fulfilling experiences possible. That’s why we’re taking just a little bit more time to make sure our vision for Outlast 2 is in no way compromised and is the experience you deserve.

This is not the type of news we ever want to deliver, but we are so fully committed to the world we’ve built and to our awesome community that we could not, in good conscience, release a game who’s limits haven’t been tested to the extreme.

The original Outlast was almost-universally praised for being terrifying in ways many big budget horror games today simply aren’t. Where that game took place in an asylum, Outlast 2 has moved to rural Arizona. We’re glad Red Barrel is taking the time to make it as good as possible—there are certainly plenty of games to play until Outlast 2 releases.

“We promise Outlast 2 will scare the crap out of you,” they wrote, and we’re inclined to believe them.
