Pokemon Go Anniversary Events Begin this Month

Turn your caps around, trainers! It’s been a whole year since Niantic’s highly anticipated augmented reality mobile game Pokemon Go released, and the momentum is still going. In celebration of over 750 million downloads worldwide and a year on the market, Niantic has several events planned throughout the summer.

The first of the events will begin during E3 Expo on June 13. This Solstice event will have fire-type and ice-type Pokemon appearing more frequently, experience bonuses for throwing Pokeballs accurately and discounted Lucky Eggs.

Soon after, Niantic hints that there will be an update that will allow for cooperative play. Details on this have yet to be revealed, and in preparation for this, gyms will be temporarily disabled. Niantic has yet to comment on when this will happen, or how long this will last.

The first real-world Pokemon Go event will be on July 22 in Chicago. Pokemon Go Fest Chicago will be held in Grant Park; tickets for the event will go on sale on Monday, June 19 right here.

International fans won’t be left out, either. From this month to September, European players will have periodic celebrations in Unibail-Rodamco shopping centers. Schedules for these events will be posted soon. Also, in Yokohama, Japan, an event called “Pikachu Outbreak” will begin in August.
