New Pokémon, Villains from Sun and Moon Revealed

Pokémon Sun and Moon got a new trailer today showing off more new Pokémon from the Alola Region, as well as new forms of old Pokémon, such as Raichu (above). The new team of villains was also revealed: Team Skull.

Wishiwashi

Wishiwashi is a new Water Type Pokémon with a special Ability. In its Solo Form, pictured above, Wishiwashi is weak, measuring just eight inches from nose to tail. However, under “certain conditions” this Pokémon’s Ability—Schooling—activates and it transforms.

Wishiwashi’s School Form is made of many individual Wishiwashi’s. In this form, it becomes so powerful that even “even Gyarados flee from [it],” as per Pokémon’s website. It is currently unknown what causes its ability to activate, but if its health falls too low it will revert to its Solo Form.

Pyukumuku

The Water Type Pyukumuku may be the funniest Pokémon revealed yet. Once this sea cucumber of a Pokémon “finds a place it likes, it won’t budge from it. If someone moves it away, back it comes to the same spot. If it runs out of food to eat in that spot, it’ll stay there—and starve. The people of Alola found this so pitiful that they developed a tradition of chucking Pyukumuku back into the food-rich sea whenever they come across any thin-bellied Pyukumuku.” Pyukumuku has the new Ability Innards Out which activates when it faints, damaging the opponent.

Morelull

This new Grass/Fairy Type is a tiny little thing, just eight inches tall. It has the ability to release spores that induce drowsiness any time it feels threatened. It has two possible Abilities: Illuminate, which makes encountering wild Pokémon more likely, and Effect Spore, which may cause the opponent to fall asleep, become poisoned or become paralyzed upon contact.

Alolan Meowth

Meowth in the Alola Region is a Dark Type, instead of a Normal Type.

Alolan Raichu

Raichu’s Alola Form makes its a dual Electric and Psychic Type, rather than just Electric.

Alolan Marowak

Marowak’s Alola Form is completely different from its standard one, going from a Ground Type to a Fire and Psychic Type. How appropriate, given the Hawaiian imagery, that its bone club is now a fire-twirling staff.

Team Skull

Following in the tradition of countless other teams of ruffians and ne’er-do-wells, Team Skull is around to cause trouble in the Alola Region and probably harness the power of one of the legendaries. It’s led by Plumeria and Guzma, who somehow knows Professor Kukui.
