Sega Classics Streets of Rage, Altered Beast to Get Movie, TV Adaptations

As more movie studios snatch up videogame properties, Sega is tossing its own properties into the mix. Stories International, a production/advertising company formed by Sega, has partnered with the production and management company Circle of Confusion, best known for The Walking Dead and Straight Outta Compton, to produce movie and TV adaptations of the classic Genesis games Streets of Rage and Altered Beast, Variety reports.

The two games join other Sega properties, including Shinobi, Golden Axe, Virtua Fighter, The House of the Dead and Crazy Taxi, that Stories International is working on adapting. Stories International and Circle of Confusion are currently in the process of finding studios, producers and directors to take on the properties.

Producer and Circle of Confusion partner Lawrence Mattis said of the new deal, “These are some of the most well-loved Sega games, and we are thrilled to be working with Stories to adapt them into major film and television franchises.”

Despite not having any huge successes yet, the videogame movie craze continues to heat up. Streets of Rage and Altered Beast aren’t exactly burning-hot properties right now, nor are they rich in story, but you could probably mine a solid fantasy movie and kung-fu movie out of them, respectively.

Neither Streets of Rage or Altered Beast have a release date as of yet.
