Sony Confirms New High-End PS4 That Won’t Be At E3

News of an upgraded PS4 has been confirmed via a (paywall-exclusive) Financial Times interview with Sony president and global CEO Andrew House.

House is stingy with details, but says the new PS4, codenamed “Neo,” will feature 4k support and an expected price hike compared to its predecessor.

Further, games will be compatible between the two systems. “All games will support the standard PS4 and we anticipate all or a very large majority of games will also support the high-end PS4” said House.

He stated developers should expect a “small but manageable” amount of work to make games compatible between the two consoles.

The CEO also confirmed the new version will support the forthcoming VR headset set for release this October.

Last week, competitor Microsoft dropped the price of the Xbox One by $50 amid rumors of two new versions of the console.

With Sony confidently confirming the “Neo” ahead of E3, just what do they plan to present and surpass this news with? We’ll find out: the company’s press conference starts Monday, June 13 at 6 p.m. PST/9 p.m. EST.
