The Witcher 3 Can Now Run in 4K on Xbox One X

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt may have been a celebrated game upon its 2015 release, but the technical performance from the CD Projekt RED open-world game has been far from perfect. Nearly three years later, the Xbox One version has received a performance patch that will allow users of the Xbox One X to not only experience 4K graphics, but also to choose between resolution and performance.

Per the game’s blog, the self-explanatory 4K Mode will have the game run in 4K resolution with a steady rate of 30 frames per second. Performance Mode allows for dynamic scaling (from 1080p to 4K) while aiming for 60 fps. As the post mentions, both modes support HDR.

The PlayStation 4 Pro version received a similar update, getting the game to 4K resolution through checkerboard rendering—the version lacks HDR support at the moment, but the developer promises a patch that will add it in the near future.

If you haven’t explored The Witcher 3 in a while, and you have a nice television display, now might be the time to get back into it.
