Cadence of Hyrule May Launch on Switch This Week, According to Leak

The latest Zelda installment, Cadence of Hyrule: Crypt of the NecroDancer Featuring the Legend of Zelda, may launch this week on Nintendo Switch, according to a leak.

While the Nintendo of America website states the game will be released this spring, further investigation uncovers a little more. A look at the site’s source code reveals a line that reads, “Release date: May 30, 2019,” as Nintendo Life first found.

A recent post on the ResetEra forums also appears to support a May release of the game: A user shared screenshots of Cadence of Hyrule’s inclusion in a Nintendo marketing email titled “What to expect in May!”

Since its trailer was released, fans of Zelda and NecroDancer have been waiting to get their mitts on the new game. And now, if the leak is pointing us in the right direction, the wait doesn’t seem too long, after all.

The “surprise” launch follows the game’s March announcement as a crossover between its more mainstream, beloved Zelda series and the indie hit Crypt of the NecroDancer, which first launched in 2014.

While the rhythmic action-adventure game is backed by Brace Yourself Games, the same team of developers behind NecroDancer, and shares the same gameplay, the art style will be revamped to match Zelda’s iconic style, meaning some of the characters may get a makeover.

“You can enjoy the gameplay of Crypt of the Necrodancer in the setting of The Legend of Zelda series,” the title’s website explains.

The game allows you to play as Link or Princess Zelda in a quest to save Hyrule. And some of the characters may get a remix into new forms: “From modern-looking Lynels to the Hyrulean Soldiers of old, you must master the instinctive movements of each pixel-art enemy, and strategically outstep them in rhythmic combat,” the website continues. “So equip yourself with an arsenal of iconic Legend of Zelda items, as well as the spells and weapons from Crypt of the Necrodancer. You must be prepared to face Hyrule’s most wicked bosses, which have been transformed by magic, granting them mighty, new forms.”
