Fredheads Doc Follows Hardcore Nightmare on Elm Street Fans

Most horror films tend to focus on the creepy-crawly things in the dark threatening to rip our legs off and eat our faces. FredHeads, on the other hand, wants to turn the camera on the people that willingly subject themselves to these types of movies. Specifically, the documentary from Venn Pictures will follow several super fans of the A Nightmare on Elm Street series. They’ll be asked what Freddy Krueger and the popular slasher series means to them, and presumably the answers will be expand beyond, “Krueger haunts my dreams and ruined all of my serious relationships.”

FredHeads is a documentary about the fandom of A Nightmare on Elm Street and how it has changed the lives of so many people. The documentary will follow 3 fans as they tell their story and what their journey in the Nightmare community has been; some as fans, others rising through popularity. Along the way, we will be filming at conventions and getting as many fan stories as possible to feature as many fans as we can in the documentary. It’s about the heart and soul of horror, and what Nightmare means to people and why it is not a typical slasher film.

The film will begin shooting at Chicago’s Flashback Weekend in August, which happens in Chicago, as well as Lexington, Ky.’s Scarefest. The film has no announced release date yet, but 2018 seems like a reasonable estimate.

Venn Pictures have already established themselves as massive fans of the long-lasting horror franchise. Their last film, Don’t Fall Asleep, revolved around Nightmare’s Nancy and explored what happened to her between A Nightmare on Elm Street and A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors.

While it’s been awhile since we’ve had any great, true installments in the iconic series, here’s hoping that this documentary tides us over until somebody can figure out how to make Krueger scary again.
