Adam Sandler to Star in Safdie Brothers’ Uncut Gems for A24

Adam Sandler will star in the Safdie Brothers’ next feature, Uncut Gems, with Martin Scorsese executive producing. Plot details are being kept under wraps but we know the film takes place in New York City’s diamond district, according to IndieWire. The film is backed by A24, who also backed the Safdie’s critical darling Good Time from last year, which premiered at Cannes and earned Robert Pattinson the highest praise of his acting career.

The film is produced by frequent collaborators Scott Rudin and Eli Bush, who just produced the Oscar-nominated Lady Bird for A24, as well. The Safdie brothers, Josh and Benny, wrote the screenplay alongside regular partner Ronald Bronstein, who also wrote Good Time and Heaven Knows What with them. The film originally starred Oscar nominee Jonah Hill, who was forced to drop out due to scheduling conflicts.

Sandler has made very interesting career choices as of late, with his crowd-pleasing and critical favorite The Meyerowitz Stories last year (also premiering at Cannes). Sandler can be seen in the forthcoming Netflix film The Week of with Chris Rock, streaming on April 27. He also is set to star in the Netflix action-comedy Murder Mystery with Jennifer Aniston.
