Videogame Characters Destroy the World in First Trailer for Adam Sandler’s Pixels

It’s no secret that we’re major fans of classic videogames. Pac-Man, Donkey Kong and Space Invaders—they’re all rooted in a long history of early videogame development that takes us back to some very nostalgic memories. Admittedly, the concept behind Adam Sandler’s new movie Pixels had us excited for a moment. What self-respecting gamer wouldn’t entertain the possibility to see some of gaming’s most iconic videogame characters on the silver screen? Now that the trailer for the movie has rolled out this week, we’re not protesting Sandler’s new flick, we’re just not completely convinced.

We won’t say that this new film doesn’t sound better than most of Sandler’s usual fare based on premise alone, but we’ll wait to see how well some of those jokes come across before we give this one the stamp of approval. Still, the supporting cast does help alleviate some of Sandler’s pressure. Joining the actor will be Tyrion Lannister himself, actor Peter Dinklage, along with Josh Gad, Michelle Monaghan and Kevin James. Our favorite tidbit of information of the trailer is a reference to original Pac-Man designer T?ru Iwatani, who sadly does not make a cameo in the movie but is featured in the film nevertheless.

Pixels hits theaters on July 24 and is directed by Chris Columbus (Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, Home Alone). The trailer can be watched above.
