Timothée Chalamet and Steve Carrell Drama Beautiful Boy Gets Perfect Awards Season Release Date

Amazon Studios will release Beautiful Boy, starring Oscar nominees Timothée Chalamet and Steve Carrell, on Oct. 12, per Deadline. Chalamet is coming off his recent Oscar nomination for Best Actor in a Leading Role for his breakthrough performance in Call Me By Your Name. Carrell received his first nomination for the 2014 film Foxcatcher about John DuPont and the men’s Olympic wrestling team scandal.

Beautiful Boy follows the best-selling memoirs of father and son David and Nic Sheff. The memoir deals with the heartwrenching experience of watching a family cope with meth addiction. The film explores their survival, relapse and recovery. Maura Tierney and Oscar winner Timothy Hutton also star, along with Carell’s former The Office co-star and fellow Oscar nominee Amy Ryan.

Lion’s Luke Davies will co-write the screenplay with the film’s director Felix van Groeningen. Brad Pitt’s Plan B Entertainment will produce. Amazon Studios plans to do a limited theatrical release in October, which is a prime awards season tactic. Likely, the film will expand after initial reviews, especially since the film is already garnering awards buzz. This marks the second film Amazon Studios will distribute solo, with no other company attached. Their first self-distributed film was last year’s Wonder Wheel, starring Kate Winslet.
