Watch the Eye-Opening Extended Trailer for James Gunn’s Brightburn

Brightburn, Sony’s genre-bending new take on a Superman origin story, has received a three-minute long version of its second trailer.

The horror film’s synopsis reads:

What if a child from another world crash-landed on Earth, but instead of becoming a hero to mankind, he proved to be something far more sinister? In this horrific take on the classic superhero trope, a couple (Elizabeth Banks and David Denman) adopts a baby who came from the stars. While they attempt to raise the boy (Jackson A. Dunn) to use his powers for good, an evil begins to grow inside that he unleashes.

Brightburn is being pushed as a James Gunn film, who does serve as its producer, but was directed by David Yarovesky, and written by James Gunn’s brother Brian Gunn and his cousin Mark Gunn. Gunn, of course, was recently rehired to oversee Marvel’s third Guardians of the Galaxy film, in addition to directing a new Suicide Squad movie for DC.

Hang onto your capes and see the film’s new extended trailer and poster below ahead of its theatrical release on May 24.
