New David O. Russell Project Adds Cinematographer Emmanuel “Chivo” Lubezki

Emmanuel “Chivo” Lubezki, the Academy Award-winning cinematographer behind visually stunning films like Gravity, Birdman and The Revenant, has signed on to David O. Russell’s forthcoming project, Deadline reports. Not much is known about the currently untitled project in terms of plot, but Michael B. Jordan, Margot Robbie and Christian Bale are set to star. The film is slated to begin production this spring.

Lubezki’s involvement with the project could help generate Oscar buzz for the American Hustle director. As DP, Lubezki won three Academy Awards for Best Cinematography in a row, beginning with Alfonso Cuarón’s Gravity in 2014, and followed by Alejandro González Iñárritu’s Birdman in 2015 and The Revenant in 2016. A long-time collaborator of Cuarón’s, Lubezki was also the DP for Y Tu Mamá También in 2001 and Children of Men in 2006. Lubezki has not shot a feature since The Revenant.
