David Ayer and Margot Robbie are Making Gotham City Sirens, an All-Female DC Villains Movie

David Ayer is back in the DC business. The Suicide Squad director is reuniting with Margot Robbie for Gotham City Sirens, a film that will showcase the top female villains in the DC universe, per The Hollywood Reporter.

Ayer is set to direct and produce the project, while Robbie will reprise her role as Harley Quinn. Quinn is currently the most popular female character in the DC universe, and was one of the most successful elements of the mixed bag that was Suicide Squad.

Sirens is based on a series of comic books that focused on the female villains that Batman typically faced off against. The group included Quinn, Catwoman and Poison Ivy. Catwoman was most recently played by Anne Hathaway in Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises, while Poison Ivy was last played by Uma Thurman in the somewhat disastrous Batman and Robin.

Geneva Robertson-Dworet, who has also written scripts for the Tomb Raider reboot and Sherlock Holmes 3, will pen the script. Warner Bros. is still planning to pursue a sequel to Suicide Squad, and is also looking into a spinoff featuring Deadshot, the assassin played by Will Smith.

There is no official release date as of yet, but Gotham City Sirens is reportedly on the fast track.
