Atlanta Star Zazie Beetz Cast as Domino in Deadpool Sequel

Atlanta favorite Zazie Beetz has been cast as Domino in the forthcoming Deadpool sequel. The announcement was made via Ryan Reynolds’ Twitter, where the Deadpool lead actor posted a picture of dominos spelling out Beetz’s name with the caption “domino effect.” He also tweeted out an adorable comic book poster featuring Deadpool and Domino with Beetz’s face, with the caption “Zadie Beetz effect”—see the tweets below.

The first Deadpool was released last year, and became a major hit at the box office with adult comic book fans. Paste gave it a solid 7 out of 10, and described it as “loud, scrappy and intentionally provocative.” It grossed more than $754 million and was quickly green-lit for a sequel, which will be directed by David Leitch (John Wick 2) and written by original Deadpool writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick.

Beetz, fresh off her success as Van in the Golden Globe-winning, extremely popular show Atlanta, will play the skilled mercenary Domino. Domino’s powers involve using a constant “probability field” to influence the probability of certain events in her favor—in other words, she’s lucky. Considering Beetz’s jaw-dropping performance in Atlanta, we think the Deadpool team is lucky to have her as a cast member.
