Ava DuVernay Will Direct Disney’s A Wrinkle In Time

Ava DuVernay may have turned down Black Panther, but maybe it’s just because she’s already incredibly busy. According to Deadline, the Selma director just signed on to direct Disney’s upcoming adaptation of Madeleine L’Engle’s classic fantasy novel A Wrinkle In Time. The film, which is being written by Frozen scribe Jennifer Lee, joins DuVernay’s growing list of projects, which also includes sci-fi- thriller Intelligent Life and a film on Hurricane Katrina. In a Hollywood that disproportionately hires male directors, her success has been remarkable, and hopefully it will blaze a trail for other female directors.

A Wrinkle In Time, for those of you who don’t remember or were deprived of proper children’s literature, involves 13-year-old Meg Murry searching for her father through interdimensional spacetime with a device called the Tesseract. Make some room on the sci-fi bench, Transformers Tesseract and Avengers Tesseract.
