Geena Davis, Joan Chen to Join Jessica Chastain in Assassin Drama Eve

Acting veterans Geena Davis and Joan Chen have joined the star-studded cast of assassin drama Eve, per THR.

Eve stars and is produced by Oscar-nominated actress Jessica Chastain, who plays the titular role of a cold-blooded assassin who is being haunted by her former employers while trying to open up to her family about the nature of her job.

Plot and character details are mostly being kept under wraps, although sources say Davis will play Chastain’s mother in the film, while Chen plays a gangster who runs an underground poker game. The impressive cast also includes Colin Farrell, John Malkovich and Common.

Davis is an Oscar-winning actor with credits including the beloved Thelma & Louise and Beetlejuice, and is also an advocate for female representation in media through the Geena Davis Institute on Gender in Media. Chen recently starred in Netflix’s Marco Polo and recently wrapped the John Cho-starring drama Tigertail, also for Netflix.

The Girl on the Train helmer Tate Taylor is directing the project, which comes from Voltage Pictures and Chastain’s production banner Freckle Films. Chastain will produce with Freckle Films’ Kelly Carmichael alongside Nicolas Chartier and Dominic Rustam.

Eve is just one of two high-profile projects that Chastain has announced she will be working on as both star and producer this year. Her slate also includes all-female spy thriller 355, the cast of which also includes Marion Cotillard, Lupita Nyong’o, Penelope Cruz and Fan Bingbing, although the status of that project is up in the air due to Chinese mega-star Bingbing’s ongoing legal troubles in the country.

Production is currently underway on Eve in Boston.
