Fifty Shades Darker Trailer Tops The Force Awakens For Most Views in 24 Hours

Bad news for Star Wars fans, proponents of not perpetuating the mainstream acceptance of abusive relationships, and people everywhere in general: the Fifty Shades Darker trailer topped The Force Awakens’ trailer’s view count by two million in a 24-hour period, drawing viewers across platforms and securing the book-to-film adaptation’s spot as the most-watched trailer in that timespan, as THR first reported.

Perhaps Fifty Shades Darker simply appeals to a wider audience, or maybe it’s due to the morbid nature of human curiosity, or it’s possible that the risqué content attracted a lot of teenage boys to the trailer. Whatever the reason, the trailer for the Fifty Shades of Grey sequel debuted on Tuesday, and the views poured in—114 million of them in just 24 hours. (In case you were curious, that’s a staggering 4.75 million views per hour.)

The Fifty Shades actors were more than thrilled about the enthusiasm for the trailer, and the hugely successful response could predict more box-office prosperity when the film debuts on Feb. 12, 2017. The first installment of the series has so far made $528 million worldwide, making it Universal’s most successful R-rated movie of all time.
