Paul Rudd to Star in Jason Reitman’s Forthcoming Ghostbusters Movie

The agonizingly charming Paul Rudd is joining Jason Reitman’s forthcoming Ghostbusters sequel, as confirmed by a tweet from the official Ghostbusters account.

Rudd is expected to play a teacher, but we’re pretty sure that the seemingly immortal actor has to be playing a ghost. The news comes from Variety, who report that other actors in negotiation for roles in the sequel include The Leftovers’ Carrie Coon, Stranger Things’ Finn Wolfhard and Gifted’s Mckenna Grace. Sigourney Weaver is expected to return as Dana Barrett, while Annie Potts has also expressed an interest in reprising her role as receptionist Janine Melnitz.

Variety also reports that the new film, currently dubbed Ghostbusters 2020, will follow a family led by a single mom; how exactly it’ll connect to the original series’ storyline remains unclear. Rudd says in today’s announcement video that he’ll be playing “a young … semi-young, strapping man.”

Ghostbusters 2020 is expected to debut next summer. In the meanwhile, you can check out everything we know about the new movie so far here. Check out the Rudd announcement tweet below.
