The Entire Harry Potter Film Franchise Is Headed to HBO in 2018

HBO subscribers are soon to be handed a first-class ticket to the wizarding world. Starting on Jan. 1, 2018, all eight movies in the Harry Potter film franchise will stream on HBO, joining 2016 prequel Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them on HBO GO, HBO Now, HBO On Demand and affiliate portals. How’s that for a magical way to ring in the new year?

Harry Potter’s addition to HBO will constitute the first time that all nine of the films set in J.K. Rowling’s wizarding world will air on a single network (unedited and commercial-free), as well as the first time that the entire franchise is available on a single streaming service.

We hardly need to tell you how beloved the Harry Potter films have been. The series’ $7.7 billion at the box office—good for the second-highest-grossing film franchise of all time—certainly speaks for itself. Rowling’s seven-book series, meanwhile, has been translated into 68 languages and distributed in over 200 territories, selling over 400 million copies worldwide.

“We are delighted to welcome the Harry Potter films to our catalogue of award-winning original programming and crowd-pleasing theatrical films,” said HBO’s Executive Vice President of Business Affairs and President of Film Programming Bruce Grivetti in a statement. “HBO has a long-standing reputation as the home of the best classic and recently released Hollywood movies, and having the Harry Potter franchise furthers our objective to bring quality entertainment to our subscribers across all of our platforms.”

HBO will celebrate its addition of Harry Potter with a kick-off marathon airing on Monday, Jan. 1, 2018, starting at 9 a.m. EST/PST and running until the early morning on Tuesday, Jan. 2. After that, HBO Family will air a Harry Potter film each night, starting at 8 p.m. on Jan. 2. Find the schedule for those showings below.
