See the First Trailer for A24’s Gripping, Psychological Afghan War Film, The Kill Team

As time continues to pass since the War on Terror propelled the U.S. into war in Afghanistan and Iraq, film depictions of the conflict in the Middle East uncover new stances to take on the nation’s moral right to hold its head high. And it looks like the latest, A24’s upcoming The Kill Team, will be taking on the darkest aspect of wartime head on. With a just-released first trailer, the film seems to be declaring its intentions to spare no one from scrutiny.

The Kill Team, adapted from a 2014 documentary, follows a young soldier deployed to Afghanistan played by former Disney star-turned musician-turned legitimate actor Nat Wolff, as he is inducted into a culture of obedience and outright murder. At first enthusiastic about his chance to serve his country and defend his fellow soldiers, Wolff’s character becomes disillusioned by his commanding officer played by Alexander Skarsgård, who seems to be displaying a not very well hidden streak of psychopathy. It all boils down to a simple question: Does this young soldier simply keep his head down and follow orders for his own safety, or do something to protect the innocent Afghans who are suffering because of Skarsgård’s actions? And will he have any backup, or are his fellow soldiers ready to shoot him on the back if Skarsgård orders it?

The Kill Team premiered back in April at the Tribeca film festival, garnering strong reviews. It’s currently scheduled to hit theaters on Oct. 25, 2019. Check out the full trailer below.
