Mamie Gummer Joins Season Three of True Detective

Mamie Gummer, the eldest daughter of three-time Academy Award winner Meryl Streep, has officially joined the cast of the forthcoming season of HBO’s True Detective. According to THR, Gummer will play Lucy Purcell, a young mother of two at the center of a tragic crime that occurs. As previously reported by Paste, Academy Award winner Mahershala Ali, Stephen Dorff and Scoot McNairy will also star in the new season along with Gummer.

We know that season three follows a series of grisly crimes spanning several decades, taking place in the Ozarks, and that the season varies between three different time periods. Ali plays the male lead, a state police detective from Arkansas, and Carmen Ejogo (Alien Covenant, Selma) plays the female lead, a schoolteacher with connections to two missing children.

Gummer’s casting comes just after the announcement that Streep will head to television for the second season of HBO’s Big Little Lies. Gummer is no stranger to television. The veteran TV actress has appeared in The Good Wife, the short-lived yet incredibly interesting Manhattan, HBO’s John Adams and more. She looks almost identical to her mother (as children do), so it’s no surprise one of Gummer’s earliest roles was playing a younger version of Streep in the 2007 film Evening. She also recently starred as Streep’s daughter in the 2015 film Ricki and the Flash.

True Detective season three is expected to air in 2019.
