Mandy to Stream Exclusively on Shudder

In a major coupe, Shudder, “AMC Networks’ premium streaming service for thriller, suspense and horror,” has acquired exclusive streaming rights to the Nicolas Cage-starring horror sensation Mandy.

Mandy opened in select theaters and on VOD in September, and has already grossed over $1 million in limited release and become a cult favorite. Shudder acquired exclusive U.S. streaming rights from RLJ Entertainment earlier this spring, also acquiring Canadian rights from Elevation Pictures.

“We were blown away by Mandy at Sundance and immediately knew we had to get this mind-bending masterpiece, which features an absolutely astonishing performance by Nicolas Cage, exclusively for Shudder members. We can’t wait for our members to see it,” said Craig Engler, general manager of Shudder.

Mandy features Cage, going peak-gonzo Cage, as lumberjack Red Miller, who sets off on a murder spree to avenge the death of his titular lover (Andrea Riseborough) at the hands of Jeremiah Sand (Linus Roache), the leader of a nightmarish hippie cult and their demon-biker henchmen. The film was directed by Panos Cosmatos (Beyond the Black Rainbow), who co-wrote the script with Aaron Stewart-Ahn.

No official date has been set for when Mandy will land for Shudder subscribers, although the service has tweeted that it will be coming soon. In the meantime, read Paste’s review of the film here.
