Thor Hangs Out with New Roommate Darryl, Misses Civil War in Comical Captain America: Civil War Short

Ahead of Captain America: Civil War’s DVD and Blu-ray release on Sept. 2, Marvel has released the much-buzzed about “Team Thor” short originally shown at San Diego Comic-Con this year.

Since The Avengers, an inevitable question has dogged each hero’s solo movie: where are the other Avengers? Well, Marvel tried to solve that issue by having Cap’s latest outing be an Avengers movie in everything but name, and yet still there were some key players missing. Thanks to the new short, we now we know why Thor wasn’t getting caught up in Tony and Steve’s dustup this summer. He was writing electronic letters, spilling Cap’s secrets, slow-roasting meat in the sun and trying to figure out what’s going on with those Infinity Stones. We also get to see Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner, who apparently spent Civil War being bothered by Tony Stark’s requests to join his team.

The short is directed by Taika Waititi, director of the forthcoming Thor: Ragnarok. Waititi has made a name for himself over the past few years with funny and affecting movies like Boy and Hunt for the Wilderpeople, as well as his work with Flight of the Concords and the fantastic vampire mockumentary What We Do in the Shadows. Marvel movies always have some solid jokes peppered throughout them, but hopefully Thor: Ragnarok will allow Waititi’s signature style of comedy to come through, especially since this short shows just how well Chris Hemsworth pulls it off.

After this short and that scene in Avengers: Age of Ultron where everybody was hanging out and trying to lift Mjolnir, can we just get a whole movie of The Avengers being pals? They don’t need to stop Thanos—let’s just see them go get coffee together.

You can watch the entire “Team Thor” short embedded above.
