Watch the Unnerving First Trailer for Netflix Thriller The Open House

“You can’t lock out what’s already inside,” warns the disquieting first trailer for Netflix’s The Open House, a paranoia-inducing twist on the home invasion horror sub-genre that’s due out on the streaming service in January.

Dylan Minnette of 13 Reasons Why stars as teenager Logan Wallace, who moves with his mother (Piercey Dalton, The Orchard) to a relative’s vacant vacation home after his father’s death. Soon enough, the Wallace family find themselves beset by eerie, inexplicable forces, as the entire town appears to conspire against them.

The trailer openings with an aerial shot that hearkens back to The Shining, with a voice later murmuring, “Death—it’s like it moves in and never leaves.” Indeed, that sense of lingering darkness pervades this glimpse of The Open House, in which every odd noise or seemingly friendly stranger suggests some indistinct horror. “Something is clearly going on,” insists Minnette’s character—but what? Perhaps streamers will flip on this flick just so they can find out.

The Open House, written and directed by Matt Angel and Suzanne Coote, hits Netflix on Jan. 19, 2018. Watch the trailer above, and see what else is headed to Netflix next month here.
