New on Redbox: All the Movies Coming in July

If you’d have told us in 1999 that we’d be able to get movies out of vending machines, we would have scoffed on our way into Hollywood Video to rent Superstar for the twentieth time, but luckily for us, we live in Marty McFly’s future, albeit minus the hoverboards or self-lacing Nikes or waste-powered vehicles … but, like Huey Lewis and the News absolutely never said, we’ve got the power of Redbox. Here’s all the new movies coming to Redbox’s kiosks and on-demand platforms in July.

Redbox is adding a healthy combination of critically acclaimed films and more blockbuster-worthy fodder next month. As far as critical darlings go, Wes Anderson’s much-discussed, stop-motion animated Isle of Dogs will arrive in a Redbox near you on July 24 and be available to stream July 17. The film received generally positive reviews, though Anderson was criticized for his use of a predominantly white cast to voice characters residing in a Westernized imagining of Japan. Paste’s Dom Sinacola wrote that the film “can’t seem to shake itself free of what [it] could have been,” despite Anderson’s efforts to include cross-cultural perspectives. Other lauded films making their way to your living room include John Krasinski’s nearly mute thriller A Quiet Place, as well as the Kennedy scandal-inspired Chappaquiddick, both of which are available in kiosks or on demand on July 10. Catch Charlize Theron as a mom on the brink in Jason Reitman’s Tully, available to stream on demand and in kiosks July 31 and to buy July 17.

July also brings a new round of summer comedies and blockbusters to Redbox. Standouts include Steven Spielberg’s CGI-drenched tour de force of ‘80s nostalgia Ready Player One, which Paste’s Will Leitch called “both nostalgic and new, something impersonal yet uniquely [Spielberg’s],” available to buy July 3 and on demand and in kiosks on July 24. Other summer fare includes Rampage, the Dwayne Johnson-starring, Chicago-destroying ‘80s arcade game reconfiguration and Amy Schumer’s body positivity rom-com I Feel Pretty, both available in kiosks and on demand on July 17. The Canadian-ized sequel Super Troopers 2 is available on demand on July 3 and hits kiosks later in the month on the 24.
