Beyoncé Might Play Nala in Live-Action Lion King

Word is that Beyoncé is director Jon Favreau’s (The Jungle Book, Iron Man) number one pick to voice Nala in the forthcoming Lion King live-action remake.

Variety reports that the singer hasn’t yet made any commitment to Disney, but that the studio and director are eager to accommodate the busy superstar, who is currently pregnant with twins. If she were to accept the part, she’d be starring alongside Donald Glover as Simba, and the role-reprising James Earl Jones as Mufasa.

Last month, apparently at the advice of her doctors, Beyoncé dropped out of her headlining spot at next month’s Coachella festival. While Lady Gaga quickly stepped in to fill her empty slot, Beyoncé’s reps said she’ll be back to headline next year. Luckily for Disney, voice acting is typically less strenuous than a Beyoncé show.

While Favreau prepares to direct the script by Jeff Nathanson (Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, Catch Me If You Can), he’ll be simultaneously developing the The Jungle Book 2, which he also plans to direct.

Beyoncé’s last animated voiceover role (and last film role in general) was in Fox’s Epic from 2013. You can check out what we thought about Disney’s most recent live-action remake of their own work, Beauty and Beast, here.
