Nate Parker wrote, directed and stars in Sundance favorite The Birth of a Nation, which released its official full-length trailer today. This follows the film’s first teaser, which was released in late April.
Against the backdrop of cotton fields in the antebellum South, The Birth of a Nation traces what leads to one of American history’s most well-known slave rebellions. Nat Turner, played by Parker, is a literate and devout slave who begins to preach to pacify disorderly slaves. However, when the atrocities keep coming, Turner organizes a revolt against their masters.
Parker is joined by Armie Hammer, Aja Naomi King, Mark Boone Jr., Colman Domingo, Aunjanue Ellis and Dwight Henry.
The Birth of a Nation hits theaters Oct. 7. Watch the first official trailer above, and find the film’s equally powerful first teaser trailer here. This could be an Oscar contender, folks.
