Who knew the story behind McDonald’s was so dark?
Obviously, the fast food giant took its lumps in Super Size Me, but the upcoming Ray Kroc biopic The Founder will take a look at the dog-eat-dog circumstances by which Ray Kroc, a traveling milkshake machine salesman from Illinois, took a small burger joint in San Bernardino, California and turned it into the world’s largest restaurant business, while stealing the organization away from its original founders.
Michael Keaton stars as Kroc, and he looks absolutely ruthless in the trailer. The whole thing has us thinking of The Social Network (which, according to the producers, is by design), with the notable caveat that the McDonald brothers are nowhere near as tall, attractive, or annoyingly patrician as the Winklevoss twins.
The Founder is out in theaters on Aug. 5.
