Sometimes it takes a while for the full stories of even the most legendary artists to be told. The first official Kurt Cobain biopic, Montage of Heck, for example, is just now nearing a release. Now, the long overdue tale of hip-hop heavyweights N.W.A. will finally be told in the upcoming film, Straight Outta Compton.
In the new trailer for the film, there are glimpses of the cornerstones that shaped the early careers of Dr. Dre, Eazy-E and Ice Cube. Eazy-E’s recording of “Boyz N The Hood” is shown, Ice Cube’s dealings with police brutality are focused on and Dr. Dre’s talents are recognized long before he was lyrical punchline fodder for Eminem and a headphone tycoon.
Straight Outta Compton is set to be released on Aug. 14.
