Netflix Snags Wendell And Wild, Stop-Motion Film Starring Jordan Peele and Keegan-Michael Key

In what essentially sounds like the coolest mad-lib of all time, Netflix will finance and distribute Wendell And Wild, a stop-motion-animated film featuring the voices of Jordan Peele and Keegan-Michael Key, from famed The Nightmare Before Christmas, James and the Giant Peach and Coraline director and animator Henry Selick. (Cue the excessive celebration, Hingle McCringleberry style.)

According to THR, Wendell And Wild, originally announced in 2015, “follows Wendell (Peele) and Wild (Key) as they are forced to face off against their arch-enemy in order to earn their way out of hell”—no word yet as to who will voice said arch-enemy. Selick and Peele will script the film with Clay McLeod Chapman, based on Selick’s original story. Selick will also produce the animated feature, as will Peele through his Monkeypaw Productions, and Ellen Goldsmith-Vein for The Gotham Group.

Wendell And Wild will reunite Key and Peele for the first time since their 2016 action-comedy Keanu. Since then, Peele has made film history with his modern classic Get Out, Paste’s top movie of 2017, which made him the first African-American to win the Oscar for best original screenplay, an accomplishment by which Key was more overjoyed than just about anybody. Peele will direct a new thriller for Universal this year, while Key will appear in Disney’s live-action The Lion King and a forthcoming reboot of The Predator.
